Cultivating both Ease & Adventure in 2026

Partly due to some very sketchy snow and overcrowded slopes (and partly due to general sofa laziness), I found myself watching Michael McIntyre’s Celebrity Spin the Wheel over the Christmas period. One question sparked my interest: According to YouGov, which age group of Britons is most likely to make a New Year’s Resolution for 2026?

The contestants guessed wrong. It turns out the group most likely to make a resolution is the 18–24-year-olds, with 37% of them planning to make a commitment to change. Compare that to the national average of just 19%! I’m not sure whether to be surprised that only 1 in 5 of us bothers, or amazed that the number is actually that high.

Looking Back

Resolution-making is a habit I used to have, but over time, it has morphed into something a little softer and more reflective. Instead of a "I must change" list for the future, I "look back" at the year that was, and then 'look ahead". As a process it nudges subtle or sometimes major shifts in what I choose for my life. It nudges me to make present what is absent.

I don’t follow a rigid format, but these three reflection questions are the ones sitting with me this year:

  1. What were my standout memorable highlights, and why?

  2. Where and how did I learn and expand who I am?

  3. For what (and whom) am I truly grateful?

What questions are you finding it helpful to reflect upon?

Looking Ahead

Once I’ve looked back, I turn toward the year ahead. Pondering a few future-based questions helps me bring my intentions into focus, making sure the months don’t just "drift" past me.

1. The Power of Release

This first question was inspired by my yoga practice. I’m currently mid-way through repeating a 30-day Yoga with Adriene program. One recent session was titled "Release," and it struck a chord. I was reminded that self-created change almost always starts with letting go. We need that "clearance" to create space for something new to grow.

The Question: What can I release that is no longer serving me?

Identifying the "what" to release is often the easy part; the "doing" is where it gets tricky! My little hack is to look beyond the habit itself and ask: What need is this meeting in me? If I understand why I’m holding on, I can find an alternative way to meet that same need, or simply let that need go.

A Note on the Process: This is similar and also slightly different from the "Immunity to Change" work by Kegan and Lahey. While their work starts with a specific goal and outcome and looks at what gets in the way of following through, the Release Approach starts with the unknown. It’s about clearing the deck first, trusting that the space you create will eventually be filled by what you actually need.

On the theme of letting go, and if you're looking to evolve the pattern of your life in 2026, I loved this quote and you may also find inspiration in this article by Suleika Jaouad

"Rituals are gentler than resolutions. Where resolutions chase outcomes, rituals attend to process."

2. Cultivating Yin: Ease of Being

The second question for the future is triggered from a photo that pops up frequently on my iPhone rotation. It’s a sculpture I saw in the water during a cycling trip in Mallorca this past May. It radiates tranquility and calm—the perfect representation of Yin energy: receptive, inward-focused, and still.

The Question: What could sharing an "ease of being" look like for me?

3. Cultivating Yang: Joy & Connection through adventure

Finally, looking back at my most memorable moments of 2025, they all shared a common thread of movement, connection, adventure. This is my Yang energy: activity, warmth, outward focus, and adventure. This prompts a third question which encourages me to repeat and extend these types of moments.

The Question: What adventures could bring more joy and connection in 2026?

Even little ones like being out in the Swiss mountains with Fi & hiking the same path in Winter as we do in Summer. Same same but rejoicing in the difference.

I will carry these questions with me through the year, using them to nudge and prompt subtle shifts in what I choose and what I create. I will use them as pattern breakers.

Sending you ease, joy, connection and adventures from the Swiss Mountains.

Thank you for joining me.

All the best, Felicity x
